GSA Baseball Program There are two basic GSA baseball programs: Intramural and MCBA (Montgomery County Baseball Association). The Intramural Program is an instructional program, with an emphasis on learning fundamentals, good play and fun. Every child who registers will be placed on a team. The Intramural Program has teams in four age groups for Spring 2001:
All Intramural Program games are played against
other GSA teams in the same Division. The Intramural season consists of 12 to 14
games, plus playoffs for the top four teams in each Division. In the Intramural Program, each child is guaranteed to play in every game. In the Pony Division, each child must play at least three innings and bat once. In the other three divisions, each child must play at least two innings and bat once. In all Divisions, the children do the pitching, under strict rules designed to protect the pitcher's arm. All games are played under National Federation Rules, with specific GSA modifications applied to each of the four divisions. Pony and Midget Division games are played in Gaithersburg at one of the following fields: Kelley Park, Robertson Park, Morris Park, Walker Park, or Rosemont Elementary. Junior and Senior games will be played at Kelley Park or at one of the local area high schools. The MCBA program includes teams in the Pony, Midget, Junior and Senior age groups. One team from each age group is entered in the Montgomery County Baseball Association (MCBA). These teams consist of the most talented children and are selected on a tryout basis. The MCBA games are played against other teams in Montgomery County that are entered in the MCBA. |
